After an agonizing 17-year hiatus, Toyota’s much-adored Supra sports car returned to center stage at the 2019 Detroit Auto Show, bringing with it a “totally lit” verve and a head-turning appearance. Sleek, sophisticated, and shimmery, the fifth-generation Supra coupe appeals to its 1990’s crew of loyalists as much as new “what the heck is a Supra?” millennials, and everyone at our St. Louis car dealership couldn’t be happier to see its revival.
Enough teasing. Here’s all you need to know about the 2020 Toyota Supra, which is set to appear at our St. Peters Toyota dealership sometime this summer.
A Sports Car, Through & Through
A 3.0-liter twin-turbo 6-cylinder: that’s what you should expect under the hood of the 2020 GR Supra. The epitome of responsiveness, this turbo-6 allows drivers to control the throttle with precision thanks to a set of paddle shifters. That means all 335 horsepower and 365 lb.-ft. of torque are available at your fingertips. With a top speed of 155 mph, the new Supra powers from 0 to 60 in a blistering 4.1 seconds.
The engine’s 50:50 weight distribution optimizes Supra’s center of gravity, which is largely due to the Toyota design team’s decision to move the engine back into the body and as low to the chassis as possible. An adaptive double-joint suspension, 19-inch alloy wheels, and top-tier Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires up the ante, as well, giving drivers a reason to hit the track.
Two selectable drive modes will be available: Normal and Sport. Sport Mode provides more weight for steering around tight corners by adjusting the suspension, traction control, and shifting. Plus, it just sounds cooler when you punch the throttle. Vroom-Vroom!
Elegant, Inside & Out
Perhaps the biggest draw for the 2020 Supra is its highly refined cabin. Creature comforts abound inside so anyone who grew up not knowing what a landline phone is will feel right at home. Dual-zone climate controls, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, an 8.8-inch infotainment touchscreen, wireless device charging, and a premium 12-speaker JBL audio system are standard or optional depending on trim. (Additional features include keyless entry, automatic wiper blades, power-folding side mirrors, and Apple CarPlay compatibility.)
With regards to safety, the new Toyota Supra will come with a suite of features, including forward collision warning, automatic emergency braking, automatic LED high beams, road sign recognition, lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, and an auto-dimming rearview mirror.
2020 Supra Release Date & Pricing
Only 1,500 GR Supra Special Edition models will be available in total, but our Toyota dealership near St. Charles should be stocked with 2020 Supra 3.0 and 3.0 Premium models this summer. As far as sticker prices go, the Supra 3.0 will start at $50,920, with the range-topping 3.0 Premium sitting $4k above it, at $54,920. (Of course, you can expect our St. Peters Toyota special offers to cut into those prices substantially.)
